Helms Deep - revisited

A couple of years back now it must be, I played a game with a mate of the second Helms Deep scenario from the Two Towers sourcebook. I was going to write it in a snazzy Battlereport. Sadly it never happened at the time, and over time I forgot the play by play and mislaid my notes... but I stumbled across some of the pics I had taken, whilst cleaning up PC photos folder:

Here's a few pictures for your enjoyment:

The scenario starts off after the bomb has blown down the wall. All on the wall are lain down except Gimli. Aragorn waits ready to charge forward into the breach. Other Rohan warriors are waiting to rush in.
I played the evil side and chose to lead with the berserkers.

It was a hard fought battle, and a tough one for the evil side to bring the greater numbers to bear.

The good guys heroes plugged the gaps and I never really managed to get my troll into the fight until the end when it was too late.

Here's a link to earlier Battle Report, in pdf form:

  1. Eyecandy indeed. That troll is a wonderfull looking "mini"

  2. Great photos Scott. Really nice looking troops too.

  3. Great pics!!! That's an excellent castle you have there, is it home-made?

  4. Thanks Guys :-)
Yeah Ray, it's home made - I followed the directions to make it in the Two Towers source book. Its a foamboard structure clad with card cut out 'brick facings'. It's originally made with the complete wall showing the culvert. Then you remove that piece and replace with the breached section.
I'll see if I can dig out the origianl report I did and post it up on my blog.

  5. Hi Scott,
I'm one of your followers with the mailing-list.
You post a lot of good articles. I enjoy it often.

You will maybe like my Helm's deep version :

I'm sorry, it is in french but I write you from Belgium (200km above Paris)

    1. Thank you.
Your scale of work is very impressive, thanks for the link.

I have a little French up my sleeve from my school days, and if that fails, theres always Google Translate :-)

  6. Scott, you have somevery nice painting. Your colors stand out from each other, even when it's gray next to black. I'm a huge fan of Rohan vs. Isengard, and I collect them both. Amazing work on the walls, too.

  7. Some fantastic painting here - love the troll!!! and the terrain...... where do I start. the breach in the deeping wall looks amazing with all those Uruks and the troll pouring through with the desperate Rohirrim trying to repel them.

Inspiring work, will follow your blog closely!

    1. Thank you for your kind words of support, it's much appreciated :-)
